Hello Damon Albarn, how are you?
Fine, thanks!
And so we go. And our first question is: What do you think what qualities helped you achieve success?
Many people say that I have a very strong character: charismatic, ambitious and determined. That I likes to wrestle; it's how I gets to know people. Maybe…maybe I charismatic… maybe I purposeful …But, also I have bad character traits. Possibly due to which I became a successful. My ego is the worst thing about me. There is weakness in some people - the desire to be steeper than all. And I'm too late to recognize this weakness in myself. This flaw in my character - that I wanted to be the most famous and beloved. But now that I did it.
OK, and what do you think about success?
Success is never something that is absolute except when you're dreaming about it. I suppose the illustration of success doesn't come more neatly packaged than a rock band with 10,000 people screaming at them every night, but it's curiously unsatisfying. It's definitely good, but it's silly really, and certainly not enough to make you happy, any more than lots of money is. Fame and success are just currencies, different kinds of money. They help you get you what you want, to set your own agenda - but that's where the big problems usually start.
Fame - it's a funny old game.
What do you think about drugs and Dangers of Drug Abuse among Youth?
Drugs are bad; many of my friends took drugs, it was terrible to watch as they suffer.
You also took drugs?
I don’t want to talk about it, I can only say: “In the sixties people took drugs to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, people take Prozac to make it normal.”
What do you think about youth subcultures? When you were young you entered for any of them?
I think it's just a way to express themselves and have a good time. No, but my parents were hippies. When I was a teenager, my mum thought I'm ultra-conservative in the way I dressed. Hippy parents just don't understand why you want to wear a shirt and smart shoes. Ha!
What can you say turning to youth?
Follow your heart is the thing, whenever you find anything that you love, even if people think it’s ridiculous. If you find something you love just go after it and protect what you like.
